Well cared for flora can be the difference between having just a house and living in a home. Plants have personalities all their own and letting them express their individualism is one way of seeing the beauty inherent in nature. Take some time to get to know the some of the outdoor plants that are native to the geographic regions of your country.
Thw UK has some gorgeous plants that can be used for landscaping and to attract certain types of wildlife. For instance, if a one has a penchant for butterflies then a garden containing the following types of flowers will attract the winged beauties: Buttonbush, New Jersey Tea, Rose Verbena, Purple Coneflower, and Aromatic Aster. All of these plants are pretty on their own, but when butterflies are added to the mix, the garden becomes a kind of fairy dusted glade where flashes of color flit around with a woodwind like alacrity.
Butterflies are nice but lots of folks much prefer their pixie like companions, the hummingbirds. Yellow Honeysuckle, Royal Catchfly, Blue Sage, Red Buckeye, and Foxglove Beardtongue all attract these hovering little nymphs when they head to the Southern Midwest. Nothing is as magical as watching hummingbirds defy the laws of gravity while supping on the real deal. Using local plants instead of feeders for a garden not only encourages native species to grow and repopulate, but also shows that the owner of the garden is environmentally conscious and proud of their local heritage.
Outdoor plants can provide so much to an area. They increase property value to a home – they add what’s known as “curb appeal”. Nothing says “I don’t care about my house” more than a flower bed full of weeds and a sparse front porch. Think about how much better a home looks when it not only has colorful plants with inventive placement, but also when those plants are being populated by some of the area’s more attractive fauna. Think of picturesque quaint cottages . . . how many of them don’t have ivy climbing up one side and colorful wild flowers dotting the first few feet in front of the foundation.
Outdoor plants don’t ask much – some good soil, plenty of sunshine, and water – but what they give in return is worth their weight in gold. Don’t wait, install some today.
